The details

With more than 60 years of experience, JOOLA is one of the most trusted brands in the sports industry.

The company has sponsored numerous tournaments worldwide and designs sports equipment for all levels. The JOOLA Infinity Overdrive Ping Pong Paddle is one item every professional table tennis player should add to their arsenal. Here’s why:

JOOLA Infinity Overdrive Ping Pong Paddle outdoes many professional-grade ping pong paddles due to its unique construction.

The company adds each component to enhance the paddle’s performance. I was particularly fascinated by the 5 ply blade featuring a combination of the best materials:

  • Hinoki: The material is native to central Japan and is used on the outer part of composite blades to increase control and feedback. Hinoki goes through a rigorous preparation process that involves curing hand-selected trees for 1-3 years
  • Koto: This material makes the wood nimble and stiffer, allowing players to produce fast and rapid shots
  • Ayous: This wood is lighter and more elastic than the others. Its elastic nature makes it easy to wear out an opponent
  • Carbon Kevlar: JOOLA adds 2-ply of carbon-kevlar to minimize vibration and enhance the sweet spot area for stronger attacks

Using Honiki as the outer-ply, Ayous as the core, and Koto as the inner-ply gives this paddle exceptional feedback, a delight to the offensive player. On the other hand, the two layers of Carbon-Kevlar used on the innermost ply provide an unrivaled dominating spin.

This ping pong paddle is made from high-quality 5-ply wood and composite materials, namely Hinoki, Ayous, Koto, and two layers of Carbon Kevlar. The result is a durable ping pong paddle that can withstand the rigors of everyday play without compromising on performance.

I also noted the signature Micron 48 rubber used on both sides of the paddle. It is hard-wearing, and has a tacky surface to provide great grip and spin when hitting the ball.

Ease of use

The 5 ply wood combination makes the paddle feel heavy; I needed some time to get used. Luckily, the flared handle designed for players using the shakehand grip shortens the learning curve.

When combined with the Micron 48 rubber and the 2.2 mm sponge,  the paddle becomes pretty comfortable and efficient to use. The rubber’s tacky surface allowed me to spin more when playing on the offensive side and side spin when making defensive and controlled strokes.

On the other hand, the thick sponge was more useful when playing as an offensive player, but its soft form helped me control the strikes better.

Value for money

I’d be hard-pressed to name another ping pong paddle that delivers similar performance for the price.

Many professional-grade paddles are pricier. The fact that JOOLA uses top-notch materials to make this paddle for the price is a bonus.

Final verdict

The JOOLA Infinity Overdrive Ping Pong Paddle is an excellent buy for players who have learned offensive playing skills.

I would also recommend it to professional players because it has all the necessary features one would look for in a paddle used in competitive environments. I wouldn’t recommend it to a newbie or a defensive player.
